The Studio presents Ed Raether's MWrench Steering Box Reinforcement

Post by scott s »

Hello, MyE28!

My name is Scott Saier and I run a shop in the SF Bay Area named The Studio with two friends, Logan(@Derrith) and Phil. We officially opened in 2021 and primarily work on restoration, motorsport, and customization projects for classic BMWs, as well as other enthusiast owned cars from the pre-war era up through mid 90s/early 00s. We love E28s most of all, and between the three of us have owned about a dozen E28s (as well as the lesser E28 based coupes  ).

Logan and I have been purchasing Ed Raether's MWrench steering box reinforcement kits for the last ~15 years for our own personal cars, as well as clients, both before and during The Studio's existence. Due to our proximity to Ed, I began driving to Ed's house to pick up my reinforcement kits because I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations and insight! As many of you know, Ed is now in his early 80s. Maintaining the MWrench brand and product as he has since the mid 90s is less than ideal as he continues to live out his incredible life and travels. Over the last 3-4 years, we have gone back and forth with Ed about continuing the production of his famed steering box reinforcement dowel, and today we would like to officially announce that he has given us rights to the brand and production of the reinforcement kit. We recently had our first batch of units made by the same San Jose, CA machine shop which Ed has used for the last 20+ years. We have intentionally left Ed's excellent design unchanged, but have decided to add just a bit of flash, with the addition of yellow zinc hardware. We have installed about a dozen in our shop already, and are now bringing this amazing product back to the market after a couple years since Ed's last batch.

While I'd love to be able to spend lots of time on this forum, I can't say I'll have the ability to regularly respond to this thread or messages. If you'd like to purchase a reinforcement kit just as Ed designed and distributed; including dowel, lock washer, washer spacer, and bolt, we have them in stock and ready to send out. We also rewrote the directions for install to make them a bit more clear/concise, as well as assembled new photos of the process. We are hopeful to be handing off some distribution rights to Angry Ass Solutions soon, so that they can stock and drop ship the products directly to you!

To purchase, please contact us at one of the three below:

To any mods/admins, if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it, and possibly pin it, so that we can begin to divert the traffic away from Ed's phone & email.

Thank you Ed for this amazing opportunity to continue to support the cars we love most, and thank you to this amazing community for supporting Ed and his wonderful product over the years.

Happy motoring,
Scott Saier & The Studio

Recently ordered this kit from Angry Ass. Quick shipping, and it came with everything needed for the install. I put my subframe back on the car and no more clunk in my steering!
