Ok here is the story on this car, it is very sad. I hunted for the best possible Slant Nose 528e I could find. I found it in Dallas and shipped it home. Here is a description of why I bought it. It was the Original owners sons car that he acquired after his mom died. It had never seen snow and very rarely rain because of his mom’s age and driving ability. The Car had 117K on it. It had a couple of door dings and one rock chip. Interior had very minimal wear all around. No rust, no rock chips, even in the wheel wells and under the car and on the suspension. The paint is not faded because it was always garaged. Trunk tool kit had never been opened. Trunk was immaculate. When you lifted the hood it looked like a new car in the engine bay I could not believe it. Everything except the seat wear looked almost perfect! Now it gets even better. This person had every receipt from day one, even the card from the person she bought it from. It has the window sticker $34K purchase price. All the manual in excellent shape as well. I mean it is beautiful. Then there are the maintenance records, I about died. All of them but since they were not too smart on things, when the car broke they just drove it and said fix it. SO...I have over 13K in receipts on this car. I am not kidding. In the last 3yrs(7K) the son put over 9,000 into the car. Let me give you a rundown of that recent work. New head(it blew a head gasket) $5400, this included some other things too. New Exhaust front to tailpipe, new tires $800.00. New transmission(auto), new stereo, new water pump, new timing chains or belts, shocks, some power steering and rack, it goes on and on. It is in fact almost crazy. You can tell that they didn’t know too much about cars and since they had money just paid the bills. I was very happy when I got the car. There is a complete folder on the car a inch thick on everything done on the car and when. The wheels do not even have pits in them they look like new!

Now is where it gets sad....I bought it for my wife who wrecks every thing I buy her, I am not kidding. 3 weeks after I let her drive it she acquires a dent in the front fenders and on the hood. They are all very small ($600.00 body shop estimate at 45hr.) And now after being upset with that I find out that it needs 2 crank angle sensors($62 on eBay) and the camshaft replaced. I know, the head was replaced so I don’t get it, I am NOT mechanically inclined and always find cars that everything works so I am just giving up on this car. Since I cant do any of the work it is not worth it to me. Either someone buys it here I am in Lincoln NE or sells me a head really cheap. If you are someone who can do the camshaft, this is obviously perfect for you! I do not think I will be able to ever find one set up like this again.

Please feel free to contact me I have lots of pictures since it was such a prize find and I have pictures of the damage...not a big deal...I wish I could do mech. work I would def. keep it.

I can be reached at 402.430.0589
I have many pictures of the car and it could be driven anywhere without fear of failure.

Sounds like a good opportunity to do the 325i head.

I dont know how to do any of it I give up I guess. Sucks because the car is so awsome.

I had never bought a car that was this documented.

Head work and cam is like 1200-1500...no can do.

Right, this is where you get another head and slap it on.

Somebody correct me but I believe on a non Super E (1987 and earlier) it is not that simple. You have to do more work because the pistons aren't correct, you either need Super E pistons, 325i pistons or custom ones.

You also should use the Super E dual exhaust.

Only on the 1988 Super E will the simpler swap work. And it's not must head and cam, you need the intake and ECU.

I dont get what you mean?

So there are more parts to replace? Can you just do a head swap? SO you are saying there is multiple parts in doing this? and the cost at 80hr is much more?

I'm sure he could also get a standard eta head on the cheap from someone who did the "i" conversion.

However, it might be in his best interest to sell the car. Good luck.

I was just down that way the other day. Maybe I'll come down & take a gander. I already have another e28 in the works & this would make a third. How many does one need for this to become obsessive compulsive disorder?

Give me a call....Like I said its saddening I wish I could do mechanical work.

this is an eta engine. The hot setup is a 323 head for these pistons. A decent head from a stock eta would save this car. Or even just a cam and valve train refresh performed on he head. BTW, why do you say the cam is bad? Could it just need a valve adjustment?

If you're still interested I have an engine from an 87 528e. You can have the head cheap, plus shipping. Let me know what you think cheap is and it's yours. I'm in CT.

Mech said flat cam now running on about 5 cly. Adj val

I had the valves adjusted and they the mech said its flat bad cam, pretty much running on 5 clyinders I guess, to me it sounds like a desel. And less than 30K ago all the cly were replaced when the timing belt blew. Swapping a Head would be great, I have no idea what a eta head is but if I can get one cheap that woudl be great, I need crank timing sensors 2. But please help m e out if you can. I have a coupel of peopel with heads that have came forward like the person here.

I was not there so I dont knwo why but that bil was huge they must've thought it didnt need to be replaced. I knwo I scratched my head too. Well, since I foudn most of what I needed still looking for Crank Sensors and the plastic drivers front bumper surround, I think I am going to just swap the head. WHy not this car is basically new mech....the only thing that apparently wasnt broke...so...I guess I am going to learn some new skills with my friends HA!
