Upon the suggestion of a fellow board member, I am making this somewhat detailed list of criteria on what I'm looking for.

Some of these items may not be as essential as others.

So here are the "must haves"...

  • 535is in very good to excellent overall condition
    5-speed
    Strong running, well maintained engine
Preferably no more than 200k miles
    No rips in leather
Paint in nice shape with nice shine
    No rust

And here are the "nice to haves"...

  • Dinan chip (or other brand)
    Aftermarket exhaust
    Aftermarket rims
    Aftermarket suspension
    Euro bumpers

My favorite colors are blacks & blues, but I'm open to others.

I'm looking to stay somewhere in between $3k and $5k.

I'm ready to buy whenever the right car comes along!

Good luck with the search. One question...why do you want aftermarket wheels?

Well, perhaps I should have said that I don't want the original wheels. Later model BMW rims are good.....maybe even preferred.

Just don't want the originals.

Make sense?

Crystal clear. Later OE wheels are the best route to go.

Thanks for posting your criteria, you can scratch the '88 535is @ XLR8 Motors in Spring, Texas from your list. I stopped by there on Sunday evening and took a quick look. The paint color appears to be Delphin, clearcoat is starting to fog on the roof, rear deck spoiler, and the trunklid. Interior looks good except the left bolster on the drivers seat has a 1.5" cut. Mileage was only ~150K, at least that's what was shown on the odometer.

Yeah...thanks for the report.

Another Houston area forum member went by on Saturday and actually drove it. He said it runs even worse than it looks.

I guess that's what they meant when they advertised it as "runs as good as it looks."

Yeah, but I've made a deal on what looks to be a sweet iS in New Hampshire with Scuby22.

I sent you an email about it, Patrick.

If you want to look at my car, I'm open to discussion. It doesn't quite fit your criteria, but I'm less than 1.5 hours from Richmond and it's a blast to drive with the TCD S2 turbo upgrade.

Here are some pics. PM me if you want to talk.
