As good as it looks in photos, it looks even better up close. You may never find another 87 528e in this overall condition. Engine was recently tuned, has all new belts, hoses, ignition parts, timing belt & tensioner, new battery, new radiator. A/C System is cold & strong, heater & fan operate flawlessly. I never thought I'd be moved to type, "what a sharp eta!" but there you have it.

If I may offer a tiny piece of constructive criticism: $10 in new wheel emblems will go a long, long way towards perfecting the look. With a car that clean, your eyes zoom to the most obvious deficiency ... yellowed emblems.

Yeah, but it's an eta, which means it'd be like opening up a time capsule and finding Richard Simmons videos, a copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin (the Warrant album) and the keys to a Maserati Bi-Turbo!

I've owned two VW Sciroccos and I loved them both. The 8V was a reliable slug, but the 16V was an absolute treat to drive, especially considering the all the work the PO did to it.

But it ain't "mint".

"Mint" is a powerful word, and overused - especially with used cars. (It's sorta like how our government uses the term "terrorists". But I digress...) "Mint" means "as it came [minted] from the factory". People spend crazy money on collectible auto projects to get them to this point. But cracks in the dash alone, as this car has, takes it out of that category. And to get anywhere near his asking price, the owner should consider replacing the dash (and any other issue that detracts it from perfection).

By that definition, thought almost no car is going to be mint and this one, given its age, is about as close as anything you're likely to see (once the emblems and coolant jug are done).

I had to look hard to see that dash crack but yeah there is one, a little spider starting.

Very nice eta...love the lama beige interior and the fact that it is a 5spd! Best wishes on the sale. FWIW, back in 2006 we had a fellow from Chicago drive down his pristine 40k mile 524td. It would have taken at least $10-12k to pry that car from his hands, I'm sure. Also, I believe Jay in VA has/had one in the same color scheme (schwarz/lama). I thought it looked very sharp despite the fact it had been a freshwater flood victim.

Now for a quick, non-confrontational, editorial comment. C'mon guys...give the seller a break. It IS a gorgeous e28, eh? Direct pointers on dressing up the cosmetics to the seller in a PM or email. So, I guess what I am saying is that I am beginning to see the wisdom in Pelican Parts forums choosing to lock the threads of cars posted for sale on their classified forums. After all, this forum isn't meant to be the automotive equivalent of Siskel & Ebert...is it? One man's opinion...

I agree for the most part. Personally, I was shedding light on an ongoing problem with vehicle sellers - use of the word "mint", and/or falsely hyping an item in general. The seller sounds like a nice enough guy, so it wasn't anything personal. Accuracy is key when preaching to the choir.

But this is a public forum, not AutoTrader dot com. If somebody posts here wanting to know, "what do you guys think" (not that he specifically asked for that...), the seller's gonna get opinions. And I don't think any of us were busting his balls. Most comments were positive and enthusiastically suggesting that fixing those very few issues would bring his asking price.

And, perhaps, earning the term "mint".
