ok.... here is my question... this season i'm going to be drag racing some with my car... and well a friend of mine and i are going to redo all the seals and gaskets and then build custom race headers and exhaust.... but i don't have enough money to buy the turbo quite yet... we'll do that later this summer... but i'd like to install a nitros system.... i know, i know.... you guys cringe when you hear me say that... but i want to do it the right way... with rpm window and full throttle switches and all the goodies that make it safer... the only thing i'm wondering is how much i could run on a stock M30B34 engine... 50,77,100,125,150 or even 175? the engine has practically perfect compression and i'd love to do this to it.... but i want to make sure it's safe on the engine as well.... as of now it will be the only form of boost going into the engine... i'll lower the dosage when i get the turbo installed... that is if i have to.... thanks for the help.

It'll take all you can throw at it with proper fueling. Problem is that you'll need alot more than the stock injectors and fuel pump to run much at all. Not sure how'll you'll manage the fuel. You'll also want to retard the ignition some if you run a substantial amount. Colder spark plugs too.
I have plans to run NOS eventually as well. A 100 shot for thrid gear would be nice!

yeah i want it to be streetable.... i'd probably only run the nitros when i'm at the track... not very often... use remote bottle openers and all that jazz...i have goals right now of around 400-450whp.... WAY more down the road...
me and a few friends are planning on running a shop along the lines of ICS Performance after college in a few years... and we need a car to advertise with... so i gladly offered up my 5 for the service... lol. we already have a 5 port garage and enough tools and welding expertise to do some substantial work to this car....
but to answer your question... yes i will use it as a street car.... a turbo'd, nitroed, extremely fast car... lol. so far i plan on running a 3.73 lsd, using a straight through exhaust and headers.... insane boost... (i'm going to seriously look into that idea of swapping a 6-speed tranny into the bell housing... and many other improvements... haha... i hope we are successful... and what's best is there's not much competition for this market in good ol' Idaho... and plenty of racers. i love it!

Talk to Jim Bledsoe. He's got a bottle in his new canyon cruiser. Perhaps he can be of some help.

A 3.73LSD and a 6 speed are not improvements to a insanely boosted and nitrous car! Especially if you actually want it to do something besides spint eh tires.

You never did ask a question.
Done right nitrous can be very safe and very effective. A starter kit will run you between $500 to $600. Stick with a wet kit from a good company, NOS or Nitrous Express etc. Adding a bottle opener is another $100, purge kit $100 bottle warmer $100 you'll hit $1000 before you use a whole bottle of juice. These basic kits can easily add 250hp to your six with stock fuel pump and components.
Most importantly make sure you have the car sorted out before you put the juice to it. Nitrous is a good way to identify the weak point in your engine. Also either find a shop that has one or go buy a wide-band air/fuel ratio meter. Running too rich or too lean with nitrous is not only dangerous for your engine but also for you.
For drag racing, many people use a multi-stage, trigger operated system as opposed to a Wide Open Throttle Switch. This allows you to run more than one powercharge. For example, a three speed car, first gear no nitrous get the car started moving, shift quick into second, 3000rpm in hit first stage button, 175 shot, redline, shift into third hit second stage 250 shot, burn it till you cross the line. I had a chance a few years ago to work on/ride in a friends plymouth bracket racer. When he hit the second stage it was pulling nearly 1000hp and finished the 1/4 mile at nearly 150 mph, putting it in the mid 9s.
Multistage setup should come later, before that you'll figure out that you'll do better getting a beater, V8 rwd SOLID REAR AXLE car from a junkyard and running it. Beater mustangs anf Camaros are out there for less than $1000, with tons of go fast at the strip goodies.
Be careful, plan it out, start slow, hang on tight and have fun,

John,
An e28 will NOT handle a 100shot in 2nd gear w/o killing the tires unless equipped with slicks.. How can a stock fuel pump and injectors support a 250hp shot?

yeah... this may be true... however, the only reason i want to use nitrous is so that i can get the power in the right gears and NOT lose to much traction... i want to gear the 6-speed a exactly the same as the 5 in the first 4 gears... then make 5th into a normal gear and NOT an overdrive.... this is so i can go highway driving speed without running too many RPM with the 3.73. i will run about 16-18psi with the turbo and then do a 75shot or 100shot into second gear and a substantially higher amount in 3rd through 5th and then a lower amount at the beginning of 6th.... i WILL be running slicks and i WILL modify the fenders and wheel wells to take bigger ones. i'm just building this to specs that would be most entertaining to my driving style... and after researching for years i have figured out that this would be the best combo for me. the traction problem will be solved, starting with HUGE slicks and then some other mods... ill be running adjustable coil-overs with a high spring rate in the back and koni adjustables.... and i also plan on beefing up the rear end and driveline something crazy... it should get traction... but we'll have to see.
