I just spent the last hour looking at my M106 on the engine stand and the M30 in the car. I think I have decided on a game plan for the turbo install. I've decided to swap heads between the M106 and the M30. I will also swap the oil filter assemblies and will need to drill the M30 block for the oil return line. I will use a air/water intercooler setup for cooling charge air. I've also got the BOV return from a M102 that will be utilized. The only thing I'm not sure about at this point is if I should try to utilize the intake I have from the early M30/e12. My thought on the intake is to incorporate the IC into a custom plenum. The motor mount is a TCD one. The current downpipe is the two outlet type off a 745. I'm thinking about having one made that will have a single three inch outlet and go with a three inch system all the way back.
The above takes care of most of the mechanical side of the install. I've got all of the electronics from the 745 and will either start with that or buy a MegaSquirt system and go that route. If I go with the MegaSquirt system, I will wait on the install of the mechanical stuff and get the existing M30 running off of the MegaSquirt first.
There are a lot of other things to take into account for the install and they will be addressed as they come up.

Ray Avena encountered endless problems with detonation when he used 745i electronics on his m106 engine. He's swapped over to stock 535i electronics and is having much better luck.
Or just go with a MS setup
Actually it was the reverse. Endless drowning of the engine with the 745i Motronic. Now that it is running fine with the 059 I think I have the last bit of the carbon out of the combustion chambers. The new MS box is on order.Tjn182 wrote:

Ray, why the problems with the 745i Motronic? Different induction or injectors than original? Just curious, I have a line on an M106 745i and with an all-ready Frankenstein car (Motronic mated to e12 wiring) I need to be thinking about what drives the electrons around if I swap out my 3.5 for the M106.
