E28 M5 Front Stabiliser Bar fittment

Post by kko110 »

Hi,
I thought I was on to a winner when I got a 25mm M5 front sway bar cheap directly from BMW for use on my E28 M535i as an upgrade however what I didn't realise is that the mounting saddles and stabiliser support brackets ae different on the M5 compared with the rest of the E28 series..
Has anybody got a picture of the mounting arrangement on the M5?
I see the stabiliser support brackets are common also to the E36 so maybe I could cut these off an E36 and weld them in place of the E28 saddles?

Any help would be appreciated
Karl

Karl,

A guy from my country has shown me an easy method.
E34 brackets fit very well and you can still buy them new for cheap. (25-30$?)
E34 25mm bushings will fit.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that E34 bushes and E28 M5 bushes and brackets are the same but my car has the smaller brackets

The ///M5 front bar needs larger supports on the frame rail and the part is NLA but the above has em for sale.

You should also box in the bracket welded to the strut tube or you will probably rip it off the car. Not hard, just have a chunk of steel welded in on one side to the bracket and the strut tube.

No substitute for welding and fabrication in this application, as far as I know. :dunno:

No, I don't think you understood.
You can buy E34 mounts that are NOT the same as the E28, that you can weld on. You can buy these new from BMW if I remember correctly..

And then you can use E34 hardware to mount the E28 m5 sway bar with E34 hardware.
E28 M5 weld-on brackets are not available at the moment, as far as I know...

I believe I got the last set of BMW E28 M5 weld-on brackets when I talked to the local parts guy and found out they were gone from BMW NA, just gone from BMW AG, but he found a pair on the shelf in Oregon and I got them from that dealer.

But that isn't an issue as my post above has a link to some from a member that supplies a replacement weld-on bracket specifically for this application.
