Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting here, and I'm thrilled to introduce my 1988 BMW 535i, which I purchased from Mr. Andy Haynes here earlier this year. Following its purchase and subsequent delivery, our living situation took an unexpected turn, prompting me to list the car at a local auto gallery. I can't emphasize enough how fantastic this car is. It's incredibly well-preserved, and I was truly amazed at its condition. Andy even overhauled the air conditioning, which now blows ice-cold air.
I specifically sought out a car that was mechanically sound and required no work, allowing me to focus solely on cosmetic improvements. If you're in the market for such a car, this is the perfect choice. I bought it intending to use it as a daily driver for a few months until garage season arrived. My goal was to find a project car that wasn't really a project, and this 535i fit the bill perfectly. The paint (orginial) is in near impeccable condition for its age, with no cracking or crazing in the clear coat. It looks stunning in the sunlight and even in less flattering lighting conditions.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I'm listing the car for its purchase price but am open to reasonable offers. You can find the link to the auto gallery listing below. The list price there was not my idea; I informed them that I was hoping to recoup what I paid, but they decided to list it for much more.

Below you will find the original listing of the Andy Haynes who I mentioned I bought the car from. Enjoy:
Drives beautifully - very well sorted and ready to go to a new owner. Pulls like a freight train on nitro....
The basics of this e28:
This is an originally one family owned, out of North Carolina e28. NO RUST. Approximately 132,XXX true miles.
A LOT of work done to it, although it started out very nicely sorted....but as always, still had some needs. When we talk, I am happy to tell you all that has been done.
Cirrus Blau - very nice, well preserved. Pearl Beige interior - and no, it does NOT have sport seats...still has the comfort seats with very nice condition leather.
Other things have been done to it, but here are some of the highlights:
Front suspension done - all new bushings.
All rotors, pads, and brake lines (the short ones at the calipers....)
DogBones in rear done
Holy Grail Blade Fuse retrofit
Miller Performance chip - but no, I am NOT a pimply faced punk wannabe racer - I am 54 years old and drive with purpose but not stupidity.
Valve cover gasket replaced
Valves reset
Spark plugs replaced
Ignition rotor replaced
Fuel filter replaced
Both sensors off the transmission replaced
ALL fluids fresh
All original BMW glass...no chips, pits or cracks
The dash has a couple of very small cracks in it - but saveable as is, or leave alone.
5-spd transmission COMPLETELY rebuilt by Walter Motorsports in Georgia, completed in May 2023 (they had it for 13 weeks) - still in break in period - the BEST shifting e28 on the planet guaranteed.
Clutch, flywheel, rear main seal...all replaced when the trans was out.
Factory Limited Slip Diff
It was originally an automatic - I converted it myself, having bought a full factory 5-spd swap car, and took every single required bits and bobs off of it to transfer over - done very well, including reinforcing the pedal box, etc....with help from members of this e28 community.
e12 Euro bumpers - they look very nice. MY opinion is they look actually better than the "normal" e28 Euro bumpers. The e12 Euros are slimmer and seem to just cut the lines of the car well. Again, my opinion.
A/C converted from R12 to R134...I have done the entire inside the car part (meaning pulling out the interior, the dash, etc. to get to that oh so fun A/C box and pulling the evaporator (flushing and compressed air drying out) and replacing the expansion valve with brand new). Trust me, if you have not done this part before, you do not want any part of it. But hey, now it is done. You're welcome.
The dash is all back together now - and everything functions as it should...the pipes into the engine compartment have been fitted with new green R134 O-rings. Everything in the engine compartment also professionally done: including the hoses, receiver/drier, compressor, larger condenser (already fitted).
Have done all the MAJOR things that you will not have to worry about. Of course you will still tinker with it, as we all do...but you would be getting a hell of a base with which to start.
I drive it about three days a week and it is garage kept on both ends of my commute.
Sorry not to post pictures - but if you are seriously interested, you will call me, meet me on the phone and have a great conversation and we can go from there.
I promise you will not be disappointed if an e28 is your thing, and you are looking for that “one.”
