Anyone here familiar with these? Thoughts? Experiences?

Interesting! I wonder if they would sell just the billet housing? ( I messaged them through ebay) I have all the other stuff and was planning on a rebuild with a B35 sprocket/chain.

is the stock housing a wear item or a weak point? Don't know anything about these. I've purchased cars for less than this, but I'm also used to old US V8 engines with $50 oil pumps.

This does look awesome, and looks good quality. However, I have to be the one: is this really needed? You can just buy the two gerotor parts from BMW for much less and they'll serve another 40 years.

That does nothing for housing wear, though.

Can always have your worn housing welded up and machined back to proper tolerances. I don't know if worn oil pumps are really a problem though. Low oil pressure comes from worn bearings primarily and is exacerbated by improper oil viscosity.

so the housing itself is a wear item then? Does it wear on the bore or on the flat ends? Might actually be better to machine it out for a plate or sleeve rather than welding and doing machine work on the housing. At that point you have a fully rebuildable pump. The housing will need to have enough material to get away with that and not be too weak to hold together though.

In my experience the wear in the housing happens in the end rather than the bore. The bore is tight enough that any debri that gets into the pump won't end up there, it will score the inside of the rotor/impeller? and the the end faces before heading to the filter.
I think I would spend my money on getting a stock housing cleaned up, if enough material needs to be removed you could double stack the wear spacer that goes in between the two pump halves so everything bolts up cleanly to the block again. If you really wanted to go full out you could have the rotor and impeller? line2line coated so it is a perfect fit with the absolute minimum clearances and best performance.
For a billet replacement like that at that cost I'd want it to use a larger rotor/impeller from another BMW pump to get some more oil pressure at idle rpm with hot oil (coming off the track). I'd also want it to address the issue of the pressure relief valve sucking air into the pump/oil in hard left hand corners when that port is not covered with oil (I have a small baffle in my pan to help with this but I'd rather just eliminate the problem all together). This would require a full redesign of the pump and pickup so a lot more work than just recreating half of the stock pump.

I think the play would be if you build a new motor your going to replace the oil pump.
Well I would without question.
The M30/M88/S38 oil pump went extinct for a bit with BMW being the last source for new pumps then they were not in stock anywhere.
Price had gone over $500. years ago and now BMW has it listed at $654.14 with none available on a galactic level.
So I see why this billet pump was produced and at $750.00 U.S. plus shipping with the only option to rebuild a old pump.
Looks like a awesome well designed part and probably will out live a factory pump with the anodized coating, or not.
I do see the pump relief is the early design rather than the updated version and agree for the money a improved design would be sweet.
My opinion only.

Mike W posted the measurement specs in another thread. The billet housing on its own is 400 Euros plus shipping. At that price, and basically just new material- and same design, I'll just reuse mine. Going with a new inner and outer rotor, spring, piston and plate. Going to use the B35 sprocket and chain which is supposed to build more pressure at startup and otherwise- especially with an oil cooler in the circuit. Then figure out the chain tension with the shims which are still available.

I've upgrade to the B35 sprocket and chain as well. When I was looking only the thinner of the shims were available so I made my own out of some 20 (or 22?) gauge sheet metal with some basic fabrication tools instead which worked out to be perfect on its own. I did it for all the reasons you listed.

Or just machine it up, and sleeve it. I've done this in the past.

Correct, however, wear on the housing is not very common.
