Best glue for felt door frame trim?

Hello - I have searched the forum but couldn’t find any information on what the best glue is for loose felt door frame trim? I’m not sure what this piece is called, which might be why I’m not finding the info I need…

It’s a piece of cloth with felt that runs around the door frame and is glued to a hard black plastic trim piece.

I tried cement glue and Aleene's craft glue - no luck.

All purpose “crazy glue” = cyanoacrylate? Something else?

Photo below.

Help! Thanks.

I've tried Würth and would not recommend it. In my experience, this glue trespassed the fabric and was very messy and sticky on the wrong side of the felt. Luckily I had just applied a small amount.

Regularly use E6000 for many applications. It is transparent, goes and stays clear and is easy to apply, plus is flexible and generally like the results, as nothing becomes detached. Fabri Fuse E6000 specifically for fabric use might better. Bought it a year ago, for fixing my felt door issues but haven't tried yet because I cannot find it around the house, plus who wants to glue felt right? Good luck.

This was recommended for headliner and other interior trim over any of the 3M adhesives (77, 90, Headliner):

It is a bit messy applying it straight from the can as the spray nozzle isn't terribly precise, but you can spray it out and apply with a small brush.
I am pretty sure they sell this in a can form that you can brush straight out of.

3M makes a weatherstrip adhesive that works well on foam rubber seals at least. Have used that on trunk and door seals on other cars. No idea how it would do with cloth but being black and gooey any over-application would probably look bad.

3M had a product called Super Strength Adhesive, that was a clear, contact cement, but lighter in consistancy than regular contact cement that I used with good results. But I can't find it anymore, it appears to be discontinued. But if you can find it or happen to run across it, I would recommend it.

Thanks everyone! I’ve seen the spray adhesive for headliner but thought it would be impossible to use for a 1cm strip (unless I spray it out and brush or find a jar of it - thanks for the suggestion). I also saw weatherstrip adhesive but that’s for foam not fabric. I will look for Fabri Fuse E6000. I may swing by a body shop and ask them too. I’ll let y’all know what shakes out. Thanks again!

So…. I tried an all purpose “crazy glue” / “super glue” by Gorilla and it worked well but it set very quickly and I know any overspill would probably turn white, so I bailed on that. I then tried the Fabri-Fuse E6000 and it comes with a perfect applicator tip and squeeze bottle for this purpose. It does not set quickly, needs 8h apparently, so that’s a minus but I held everything in place with masking tape overnight and it worked like a charm!!! So THANKS for the suggestion! What little penetrated the fabric to the other side dried clear and isn’t visible. I haven’t tried prying forcefully but it appears solid. Thanks again!

I still can’t figure out how to put an image in these posts, it seems far more complicated than it should be, but I do have an image of masking tape holding the piece in place. Nothing earth shattering.

Hi Halvo,

I tried myself the Fabri-Fuse E6000 about two months ago (finally) and it worked great. Didn’t need any take to keep it glued, maybe mine was a bit dried out from years of not opening it.

Anyway, I am glad it worked for you. Product is good.

Best

I have the same issues and have been hesitant to try anything for all the reasons mentioned.

Thanks for this. Just ordered a tube of Fabri Fuse

Does the Fabri-Fuse E6000 mentioned above set quickly or is it really necessary to be hold things in place for 8 hours until it completely dries?

I haven't been able to find a tape that sticks well enough to the felt/door trim fabric in order to do the job.

Maybe one option is applying the E6000, then waiting a couple hours for it to get tacky before joining?

I suspect it sets rather quickly. Maybe wait a few minutes for it to get tacky, tape it, and let it rest for 8h. Even if masking tape gets loose it’s probably ok. 8h may be the full cure time but it seems to stick and hold much earlier. Mine has held up well over the last 3 months…
