Hi, Been studying this site for years and finally registered. I've owned both an 85 and 86 TD for years. Both would have been scraped years ago if it weren't for you guys! For that a great big thank you!! Curious about how many 85's and 86's were imported to the USA? I thought I had seen this information somewhere before but I can't find it at the moment.
Again Thanks for all you do!!

I was surprised at the low numbers, I would have thought they would have at least been greater than 2000 per year.

That was random. I was just looking for the INFO myself. I thought I'd seen it. Thanks for the repost...

So there are some discrepancies on the numbers.
BMW North American states
85: 1,847
86: 1,759
Total 3,606
BMW sales data shows month to date but not model year. For a Total of 3,635 td’s sold in North America.
Realoem shows a total of 3,773 North American td’s built with the first 30 being 1984 model year cars and the first 11 being manual transmission cars.
I’m not sure how many of these 1984 models were sold to the public, if they were test cars, corporate fleet cars, etc. the first 30 vins are ‘84, the 31st is an ‘85 with a 5 month gap in production in between.
I know at least 1 1984 was sold to the public because I own it. The 30th and final ‘84 built.
