524TD Specific Parts

Post by sdmuleman »

What all is different in a 524 from a gas E28? I picked up a parts 524 and I'm planning to pull and keep all the diesel specific parts so I have spares for my car. Generic E28 stuff I'm just keeping what I need since it's relatively easy to get, but with as rare as the diesels are I want to make sure I keep all the random bits that I might need and not be able to find.

Engine/trans, air filter, wiring, etc obviously. What else?
Is the radiator diesel specific? How about expansion tank, radiator mount and other off engine cooling system parts?
Instrument cluster and fuel injection ECU - anything else in the body?

Thanks.

You'd have to look at the parts numbers to be sure.
Coolant hoses are different, some NLA.
Vacuum lines probably.

Upper strut mount bearings are different on the TD. Direct replacements run $300ish each, or convert to the ones used on all other e28s. Why they are different, I don't know.
