Finally got around to having a shop install an auto solutions short shift kit i had bought a couple years ago. Replaced the bushings/mounting points as well. Definitely a lot tighter now. It takes more force to get into into gear and also my existing shift knob keeps popping off. So I ordered a condor speed tall weighted shifter and now im eyeing a new shift/ebrake boot from renown. Excited to see how it will really feel once i get the new shift knob and im not worried about pulling the knob off while shifting.

Polished up the valve cover a bit. Waiting on the correct size valve cover studs to arrive so I can continue reassembly after head gasket replacement. I’m hoping to get it running reliably then start to clean the entire engine bay and start on the list of other things I’d like to address with this ‘88. I will say the the motor and the things attached to it that I’ve worked on look wayyy better than I when I hauled the car home in May.

Installed new radiator and new hoses, replaced a fuel line and a couple vacuum hoses. Installed the fuel rail/ injectors. Picked up some coolant and hose clamps from the parts store.

It’s damn hot here in Memphis!

Put a new battery in her. Got up to go to work the other day, turned the key, and the old girl just went "nope."

Drove from Denver to Annapolis over the weekend. No drama. 20-21mpg.

The ACsolutions AC conversion kit worked like a champ, even in the 104F Kansas blast furnace I was comfortable.

Need to get cruise control working, my right heel is a bit sore/raw. According to literature it only works between 20 and 90 mph.

How come no one told me about I79 from Charleston to Morgantown? Road in excellent condition, no traffic, amazing 17mpg sweeping corners.

Using the pics in this thread https://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?p=1500396#p1500396 I replaced my old fuel tank seal with a modified e24 one. p/n 16111119235. Definitely a bear to put on. Used some trim tools from harbor freight to help get it around the neck.

I probably purchase the same e24 part a few years back for my e24 and was disappointed. Did not fit right and didn't hold up well.

Been a while since I did some real car work. Getting the super eta ready for The Vintage. Replaced broken motor mounts and dead original struts with B6 on stock springs. Doing a few coolant hoses also. Some reason, I didn’t replace the upper/lower hoses, when I replaced the rest in 2013. Probably will replace the diff mount, since I have a new one somewhere. I replaced the rear subframe bushings recently, so it ought to finally handle pretty well.

I did a manual swap last year and only had an extra e30 shifter. I was going to put in a Z3 1.9 shifter, but the price has gone up over $100, so the e30 shifter will remain.

I picked up my new project last night. It's a nice rust-free 528e shell that will be getting all the leftovers from various cars I've had over the years. The good kind of leftovers though, like a B35, G265, Recaros and Euro bumpers.

Got the cruise fixed in NH, turns out the local shop had a BMW master tech onboard. Drove home. No drama. 20-21mpg, except for the early morning run out of Salina - burned through the tank in a little over two hours. Oh, and cruise worked above 90.

They look very nice now! Perfect wheels can transform a car. But by the looks of the sidewall, somebody who drives that car likes to park way too close to the curb. Give it some room and keep those wheels looking nice and fresh. Also, please consider replacing that tire before that gash blows on the highway doing 80mph.

Thanks for the advice! Oh, that gash was from a lady that drove onto my lane and made me swerve and hit the kerb. It has not swollen so probably no actual sidewall damage. Tires are really old anyway and will get replaced soon.

I just replaced the short fuel hose that runs from the fuel rail to the cold start valve. It was getting deteriorated and may have even been original. I'd been reading about that hose in particular, because it's exposed to a lot of engine heat so it deteriorates more quickly and if it ruptures can cause a serious fire, even burn your car to the ground. I changed the other under-hood fuel hoses as well. Glad to have done this job for peace of mind.

Beautiful. It's quite amazing we can still order these parts for cars which are decades old.
Yeah, they are pricey, but sitting on parts stocks ain't free.

time for my bi-annual M5 service/inspection... on the rack as we speak.

oil service
voltage regulator (it was worn down to nubs)
clean oil cooler thermostat
nuts/bolts general inspection

edit:
oh, and i replaced all (every single one) the fucking 8mm fuel hoses again because the CRP fuel hose is absolute garbage. used OE BMW green stripe hose, at $45/meter.......but at least it's quality hose.
