We need to part ways with my wife's car, our workhorse daily driver, 1984 528e automatic in saphirblau over blue vinyl. We bought it in 2019 from a forum member in Oregon. We don't have the time, space, or energy to put into it at this point and really want it to go to someone who does.
In 2019 I did a heavy baseline on it, new timing belt and tensioner, water pump, radiator, fan clutch, transmission filter, transmission cooler line, bypassed the OBC relay, new working cluster, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, fuel filter. I forget what else. I think I replaced the starter on it. We drove it all over the PNW. In winter 2023 we moved from Oregon back to NYC, and my wife drove the car straight across in 3 days with zero issues. Before we left I refreshed all the steering components including control arms and a couple things on the rear. Granted I used RockAuto parts, but they're doing ok. Since getting back to NYC I replaced both front calipers, got a new battery, and adjusted the valves.
Mechanically it runs well, stops well, turns well, does all the important things well. The transmission shifts well but has a small leak which gets worse when it's very hot and you're chugging up long grades. I have a spare 4HP22 that can go with the car. The rear seats are kind of rough, the front seats are e30 vert blue manual sports seats. The heater blower has a damaged cage and makes noise on high. The windshield needs to be replaced, and it's sitting on old but technically sound snow tires. The trunk lock cylinder is keyed differently and I don't have it. All that honesty aside, it's such a pleasant car to drive, very calm and composed, and it still has its good looks. The odometer does not show actual miles, and since I bought it with a broken odo your guess is as good as mine. It should be somewhere around 300k miles.
No rot, nothing typical of an east coast car. Generally presents pretty well. There's minor rust present at the bottom of the doors, there's some dings and dents, and where there's missing paint there's surface rust. The trunk seal groove shows some rust. Battery tray, a-pillar base, jacking points, rockers, rear bumper mounting points are all clean. The paint is oxidized and the dash is cracked, the sun in OR is relentless in the summer. The window weatherstripping is crusty. See photo below though, it's still presents pretty well.
We're listing it here because we'd like this to go to someone who will go through it and get some use and enjoyment out of it. Located in Brooklyn, NY.
