1988 535iS in Oregon

Post by sefb222 »

SOLD.

Thank you David. It was great to meet you and your daughter. I hope you both have a great trip back to Texas.

As my car nears completion at the paint shop, I’m putting feelers out about its availability in the immediate future.

I bought the car 3 years ago, as a backup just in case the insurance company decided to declare my other e28 a total loss when it was hit. While waiting for State Farm to make up their mind, I decided to go “all in” on sorting out this iS. Now I have too many cars and some additional responsibilities, so it should go to a loving new home

The basics :

Lachsilber on Cardinal
Factory manual car

Approx 180k miles
Rebuilt head
Conforti chip
H&R springs
Bilstein struts/shocks
Custom stainless exhaust by Brent Kemy @bkburnout with IE long tube headers
All suspension bushings replaced
Subframes powdercoated
front and rear seats re-covered with leather from GAHH
Full repaint with glass out in original Lachsilber with Glasurit
Euro bumper swap
Aftermarket sway bars
Euro grilles/lights/valance
Refinished BBS RC090 with fresh tires
E34 big brakes

This car is SORTED. Ready to drive anywhere.
Massive binder full of records.

I had it painted two years ago, as all of the top side panels were faded, but I wasn’t happy with the work, so it was sent back to be redone. For 12k, I felt that the job fell short. Fortunately the painter agreed, and offered to repaint the car. He’s very close to wrapping it up, and I’d like to have a potential buyer lined up by the time it’s back in my shop for reassembly.

Priced at 25k for a quick sale. I’m 40k into the car, and at this point need to move on and do some grownup stuff.

The car is located in Portland Oregon and I’m happy to arrange shipping, and/or showing it in person almost anytime.

Email me a phone number and I will call you to talk about the car

Pics available upon request

Thanks
Seth

This is a lot of car for $25k. Should sell quickly, otherwise sell it on BAT and get your $40k or damn close to it.

I agree. But at this time of year, BaT is a huge gamble. Besides, unless I go through a broker, like Avant Garde Collection, it could take months to get the listing up.

The last time I used a broker, I lost a lot of money

Do yourself a favor, spend 10 minutes looking up past sales on a similar car, even if they sold during the last part of the year.

First, super clean build. Loving the under car pics as much as the paint and interior. I can appreciate your desire to forego the BAT clown show and list it here. Probably an unpopular opinion but I do not like what BAT has done for car culture.

Thank you for the kind words.
It’s truly is a well sorted example, and I’m confident that any new steward of this car would be quite pleased for years to come.

As I scroll through these pics and the description, over and over, and reply to emails from interested parties, I’m doubting my desire to let it go, while second guessing my price point. As much as I would love to keep it or at least come close to breaking even, my new business is in need of cash, more quickly than BaT or any auction would be able to deliver.

That said, if anyone in Oregon or Southern Washington has the desire to dry ice clean their classic BMW, I’d be happy to perform that service.
Note: this car HAS NOT been dry ice blasted, although it can be arranged as part of a potential deal.

beautiful car. I hope it goes to a wonderful new owner who will love it as much as you do. I wish i was in a better position to buy it, but i think i'm still a few more months away from being ready.

Someone is going to get a deep steal at $25K.
Very sweet presentation and your attention to detail is remarkable.
I would rethink my asking price.
I'm going to be listing my 85 E28 in the near future .
I have owned it since 1989. Southern and Central Cali only.
Porsche Pearl black , black leather, Recaro's, Getrag 5 Speed, Bilstein Sport suspension, TSW Hockenheim's, Michelin Pilot Exalto's 205/55/16 with less than 1000 miles, Hardy & Beck head /Schrick 282, H& B Shock Tower Stress Bar.
Other than Recarco's & Kenwood KDC- BT358 CD & Tuner, interior is 100% Factory, 9.8 of 10. Your E28 appears much it will be much nicer when finished and I'm going to ask $27.5K.
Anyhow, you are to be commended.
I hope your E28 realizes $ 40K +.

I agree. I hate what BAT's done. And they groupies blow me away. The highest prices and they all stroke each other saying "great buy!!"

Totally keep your car Seth. It's so clean.
And I'll be coming down from Seattle this spring to have you dry ice my car!

I would love to, but the dry ice biz startup cost me a fortune!

Rest assured I won’t be selling my e30, and likely keeping my bronzit car

And yeah! Looking forward to having your car in the shop. Just let me know when you want to come down.
