Update ***SOLD****1981 E12 Euro 520 126k original Km (77k original miles) - Tampa, FL
Update ***SOLD****
Hello Everyone,
I have for sale a RARE Euro Spec 1981 BMW 520 with 126k original Km (77k original miles). This BMW is
a real original survivor my dad and I found January 2020 just before the pandemic started in Chaclacayo,
Peru (A dry/desert area). The vehicle was imported to the US in early 2023 and has a CLEAN free and clear Florida
title in my name ready to transfer to the new owner. Asking $19,900.00 O.B.O
***Reduced price Asking $19,900.00 OBO***
The car belonged to the father of one of my dads best friends from his childhood, being a one owner
vehicle with original records and paperwork to prove.
His friend’s father told us that he wanted to do German Delivery as the car left the assembly line in
1981 so he flew to Germany for a business trip and while there visited the factory. BMW didnt have
availability at the time of his visit but there was a car (520) that a customer had ordered and recently
cancelled, so they offered it to him and he bought the 520. He drove it around Germany and then once
done shipped it home to Lima, Peru where he lived. This car is a very special example because it has
some additional options that as far as I can tell were not standard such as the 14” BBS rims, power
windows in the back along with the front, beige leatherette, and the coveted wipers on the headlights,
perfectly working manual sunroof/moonroof, plus other options that I may be forgetting. The car is a
great rust-free example (except two quarter size surface rust spots on each side where a front lip was
once mounted – see pics below).
Included in the sale:
The original shipping documents from Hamburg, Germany to Lima, Peru, plus a laminated copy
to show.
The original owner/registration documents from Lima, Peru.
The vehicle history records documented in a binder from 1981 – 1990’s when it was parked.
The Electrical schematic from BMW
Original BMW Owner’s Manual
The original Dealership repair book/binder in Spanish from BMW Latin America
The original tool kit, with original fuses and bulbs intact!
The original Jack.
Original BBS spare wheel/tire.
Original decal set for entire vehicle.
New Old Stock white BMW/Boge shock absorbers that were bought in Germany in 1981 before
the car was brought to Peru.
(4) New front headlight wiper inserts BMW stopped making years ago.
Recent work:
Respray in Polar Silver Metallic back in 2020. Has a few light scratches and a slight ding on the
driver’s side rear door. I would say paint is 7/10.
Tune-up (New Spark Plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap, Rotor, Air Filter)
Refurbished Fuel Return Valve installed (M20 engine)
New Clutch and Resurfaced Flywheel
Engine restored with new Pistons, rings, gaskets, balanced crankshaft…etc.
New water pump, hoses, belts, tensioner.
The engine cooling system completely flushed, and the water pump and thermostat replaced.
The air conditioning system serviced and refilled with new R-12 Nice COLD A/C for the
Florida weather!
New Toyo low profile tires
Original 14” BBS wheels refinished.
Carburetor serviced and jets cleaned.
New battery
New brakes
Electrical system serviced.
New exhaust System.
New front orange Side Markers
New rear taillight lenses
New OEM BMW emblems front and back.
New 520 Emblem
Needing Attention:
Gas tank welds are starting to split and if filled past halfway it leaks. A replacement tank is
$650.00, and I can provide link of company in Germany where one can be sourced. The gas
gauge is stuck on half tank as well. Likely needs a new float since it is working just stuck.
Headlamp wiper motors do not currently work but are there in place. The Bosch headlight wiper motors need to
be rebuilt.
The driver’s side rear window goes down from rear switch but not up. Needs a new rear switch. Does go up and down from Master switch
The passenger side rear window does not go up or down but there is electricity to switch and is
in the up position. Likely needs a switch.
The brake light is on dash which is a sensor that was acting up due to its point of contact as per
the mechanic. The points on it were fixed and went away but have since came back. Does not
affect braking.
No radio
Please let me know if you would like to see a cold start video or any additional pictures I would be glad to take and email to you!

This is a unique e12, and looks to be rust free.
If you haven't already, you might want to take a look at the BaT e12 market....compare all of those cars to yours, and it should give you a pretty good idea of what price range yours fits into. Maybe consider selling it on BaT. This forum only has a limited set of eyes seeing your ad, whereas on BaT, your audience is a magnitude of e28 folks.

It's really not very different than selling your house. You get comparable sales in your neighborhood, and set the price of your house accordingly.
This is an amazingly close comp:
