FS: 1986 BMW 535i

Post by dcam »

Up for sale is my BMW 1986 535i e28 with 5-speed g265 manual and 3.25 LSD. This car has special purpose Oregon plates. I am selling this car because I just had my first baby my wife says I need a car more appropriate for driving a 4 week old.

I purchased this car 8 years ago and the odometer was not working when I purchased the car. The body has 270,094+ miles on it and the previous owner reported he swapped the original m30 with another m30 and added an oil pressure gauge to the dash. Its currently on 17’’ BMW rims from a e61. The dash is cracked in multiple places. The car is originally from California and clear coat is oxidized in multiple places. I have repainted some of the panels but needs full repaint to fix this problem.

Below is a list of work I’ve done since purchasing:
• Ireland Engineering Headers, stainless-steel exhaust and Magnaflow muffler
• E34 540i big brake upgrade with Red powder coated calipers. New rotors and pads front and rear
• Blisten Sport struts
• H&R Sport Springs
• Early style euro front valance, euro front and rear bumpers, turn signals and fogs
• BBS rear trunk spoiler
• Replaced air filter, spark plugs, and inline fuel filter
• Miller MAF and Miller chip
• New radiator and silicone hoses
• New Saches clutch, throwout bearing, master and slave cylinders, and rear main seal
• Resurfaced flywheel
• Z3-1.9 short shifter, new shifter brushings, mtech shift knob
• Custom 2500 watt sound system with 12" Alpine sub and sound deadening material added to trunk and interior
• Replaced front comfort seats with e30 tan vinyl sport seats (manual)
• Rubber all weather mats
• 4 new Bridgestone POTENZA RE980 tires 8/2022
• New Battery 8/2022

Known issues:
Left front lower control arm ball joint and right front sway bar drop link both have play
Right motor mount is cracked
Rear windows are sticky and tracks need to be cleaned (motors work but lower and raise is very slow)
Front window wash sprayers are partially clogged
Front driver seat vinyl tears and needs bolster replaced
Missing left lower trim panel below steering wheel

I haven't been keeping up with the e28 market so not sure what a high milage 535i thats a little rough around the edges should go for. I have it listed for $7000 on craigslist but I am flexible on price and open to the expertise of this form on what is reasonable for this car.

Thank you for looking,
David

How did those 80s kids ever survive is my honest question. Cigarette smoke in the car... no seatbelt chime. Probably not even a car seat til age 13 or whatever is required now. I'd definitely get rid of that e28 and hop into a mid size suv with questionable visibility and a bunch of non distracing lcd screens for a dash for safety. To me, there's nothing funny about safety. Nothing. Off to get my November booster (punch card's almost full!) and GLWS!

standard shift....
4-doors....
brick of a car....
decent trunk space....

IMO, it's perfect for driving the new addition to the family in...

brought our first born home from hospital in a standard cab. 5-speed, stepside, 5-speed, K1500 pickup truck.

but seller has a point. I'd much rather have my kid throw up in a minivan than my e28. LOL

Sorry you have to sell it! My parents took my home from the hospital in a '73 Mustang, and they had to import their own car seat because they weren't available locally. This weekend I saw a child seat in the back of an R34 Skyline, so maybe your wife will OK that :)
