WTB / need e28 535i/is, possssibly an E12.
Want to buy an E28 535is... Ideally in the $10k-13k range, but would consider up to $20k if it's everything I could have ever hoped for. Any distance is fine.
Needs:
- Manual
- Not a POS
- good paint/body condition
- good/decent interior condition
Wants:
- White, but send any color my way.
- Lower the mileage the better (sometimes) but will consider any.
* I mentioned an E12, it would have to be very pretty for me to consider, but just in case you have one, please share.
Thanks!

Re: WTB / need e28 535i/is, possssibly an E12.
I have an 88is White on Cardinal Manual with 289k. Runs great no leaks. Good body, paint and interior that I would like to sell for 15k. Let me know if you’re interested and I will send contact info.
Located in SOCAL. Considering selling because I want a 63 Impala and have an E30 already.

It sold about a week ago. I’ve been talking to him for a couple of weeks. I even offered him more than the buyer but the buyer contacted him before me, so he wanted to respect the first come first serve.mottati wrote: May 19, 2023 1:14 AM saw this at a local cars n coffee, looks pretty nice, supposedly drives very well with the b35. Hey Chicagotrader92! Not sure if you got my DM or not, but I have an e12 for sale. Dead reliable, and with a ton of maintenance. It's posted on the forum. You're welcome to DM me and I can give you my contact info. The only negative thing about it is some typical clear coat loss from this era.

I bought this car - it is a nice car, and great to drive. I drove it up the PCH/101 from the Bay Area to Bellingham and left it with friends - am flying back this weekend to drive it to Glacier NP and then home to Chicago. I bought it as a consolation for making the mistake of passing on a great E3 I was offered, and to replace my Saab; though the closer I come to selling the Saab the more qualms I have about doing so because I like it so much, so you never know - Maybe I'll keep the Saab, keep the BMW, or keep both. We'll see how well I bond with it on the rest of drive homeChicagotrader92 wrote: May 19, 2023 9:35 AMIt sold about a week ago. I’ve been talking to him for a couple of weeks. How about you do nothing, and i buy it for $1000 more than you paid and I’ll ship it back to Chicago. Or, I’ll buy it for $2k more than you paid once you get it back to Chicago.Theotherotter wrote: Jun 28, 2023 11:54 AMI bought this car - it is a nice car, and great to drive. Well, that's certainly worth thinking about. Our trip is all ready to go and happening in a few days, so I'll revisit this when I get back to Chicago weekend after this one.Chicagotrader92 wrote: Jun 28, 2023 4:30 PMHow about you do nothing, and i buy it for $1000 more than you paid and I’ll ship it back to Chicago. Plus you can title hop, you’d save a bit there as well. I can’t guarantee it, but I’m 99% serious. Direct message me if you are intrigued and we can exchanged numbers. I spoke to the previous owner for a while about it up until the day you grabbed it.Theotherotter wrote: Jun 28, 2023 7:21 PMWell, that's certainly worth thinking about. Crazy how hard this is to get.

I’ve been trying, all the good ones go over $20 these days. Missed the fair priced ones from last year.

Hi, I haven’t posted before but often read threads for advice on restoring my barn find. I’m not sure if you’d be interested but I have a complete 1984 533i. It’s white with black leather interior, Southern California car in reasonably good condition. It has roughly 233k miles, engine and 5 speed transmission are in good shape. I love the car and was hoping to eventually make it a daily driver but would consider selling it since I never seem to have time to work on it. Let me know if you are interested.

From what I have seen in the past year or so, there's a bit of a disconnect between the amount of money you said you'd be willing to shell out, and the amount of money things like what you said you want, are actually going for

I disagree, there’s been plenty on BaT that sell for a price i would pay, however, i work at BaT and there’s an annoying policy that makes it so employees can’t bid. People don’t sell on these on cars & bids because why would you when there’s BaT.Foonfer wrote: Jul 24, 2023 11:20 PM From what I have seen in the past year or so, there's a bit of a disconnect between the amount of money you said you'd be willing to shell out, and the amount of money things like what you said you want, are actually going for
I’m willing to pay a fair price for a solid example. I’m not willing to pay $20k for a dented up body with faded paint, ripped up seats, and 300k miles on the broken odometer. Thats what my DM’s are filled with.
There’s a disconnect that a lot of e28 owners have who think their e28 is as good as the minty sub 100k mile examples.
Re: WTB / need e28 535i/is, possssibly an E12.
Fair enough. I once heard someone say that BaT single-handedly elevated the market price of Porsche 911s over the past 15 years. No hard evidence, but I think it's fairly believable. Someone here said E28s "have not reached matching-numbers levels" but yes they have seen a definitive uptick in valuation, if properly sorted. If anything, BaT (and the under-100K miles fetish it has helped nurture and grow) has demonstrated to E28, owners that maintain basic upkeep, and to some degree "tasteful modifications", those can come a long way if there is ever a need to sell that old car.

I have acquired a 1988 535i 5-Speed in Delphin Metallic over beige leather. Two prior long term owners, owner's manuals, original paperwork, service docs... She's minty, 10/10 interior (Literally looks new, zero cracks or stains), 8.5/10 exterior (zero fading, shiny paint, 1 door ding, 2 quarter-size scratches), 165k miles. No mods.
I paid $15,500 excluding shipping and whatnot.
Thanks all for the potential leads! I found it on Craigslist using the alerts and was able to contact the seller within 10 minutes of the ad being posted.
