It's all TCD............you can have your own.gol10dr1 wrote:o shit, i didnt even realize that was the manifold. that wastegate plumbing is immaculate. is that job mostly custom or is it largely tcd?
I am going with Corky Bell's recommendations on how to break in the engine. It will take a couple thousand miles and many oil changes. After that........................Loooooooooooooooook out! The left lane is MINE!so when ya think another couple months of breaking in before the true beast is let out to play?
Duke,
is that an S38 oil filter housing? Or is that stock M30 equipment ?
It is the stock M535i oil filter. Yes, it is messy changing the oil but I really dont like a oil pressure fed oil filter housing. What I mean is, I like the fact that the oil filter housing for my car is always filled with oil due to the under slung design. The E34 (keep your finger clean) filter housing drains the oil out and is empty for each engine start. All-be-it a couple of seconds before the filter is filled and then pressurizing the oil system, I just am not comfortable with that.

You find that messy to change the oil? It looks just like my M5 setup which i _love_. I open the dip stick and filler cap, open the pan, drain the pain, open the filter drain valve, back out the filter bolt a turn or so, drain the filter can, and then its a squeaky clean procedure. IMO every m30 engine should have that setup.
Looks great, but what is up with the rear cam cover? It looks kind of grungy.

What cam cover.................I cant see any cam cover from the front of the car???????????
Now Dave, I would be really sick to paint that, don't you think??
Yes, but we've come to expect that kind of attention to detail (sickness) from you, Duke. You have a reputation to uphold after all!
On another note, what's the interesting looking apparatus attached where the stock oil pressure sensor normally goes on the back of the head?

Does the E34 M30 not have a check valve? I know on the E34 boards for the 535s it is listed as an item to inspect if oil pressure takes too long to build on a cold start...

Yea, you are right for the most part. Without a rubber hose attached to the oil filter housing drain, it always gets on the oil pan and makes a mess.Matt wrote:You find that messy to change the oil? Also, did you put the o-ringed spacer under the correct bolt on that cover? I couldnt tell from the pic because you have a adel clamp on that bolt.
What is the reason for that spacer anyway?
That is the oil pressure warning switch (dash light) and the oil pressure sender for my VDO gauge. It is a VDO sending unit.Jeremy wrote:On another note, what's the interesting looking apparatus attached where the stock oil pressure sensor normally goes on the back of the head?

All of the bolt holes are blind except for one, and it opens on into the head.
It simply seals the bolt from leaking oil.
As your looking at the cover there are 6 bolts, two on top, two on the bottom and two on the side. The o-ringed spacer goes on the right hand middle bolt.
If you look close at the pic on my first post you can see the small spacer.

I definately think that is one of the most beautiful sights I have seen in a long time...And I think that the company TCD is putting out a high quality product as well...I take off my hat to Todd and Sweeney for making such a high quality product...your passion shows and one day I will hopefully be able to get a kit...Now I am looking at what you have done on your car and let me tell ya that it is great...and you will have the most powerful M30 on this board....But what I want to know is that yes yu will have bragging rights for the most powerful..But I remember reading a post by jeremy saying that with the S1 kit he had problems putting the power to the ground and that with more he thinks that the car would be less fun....Your going to be making what a minimum of 500+ rwhp...how much fun is that going to be spinning like crazy....I mean when are you going to actually hook being that your a stick....4 gear.....I figure is going to break the tires...so your going to be able to hook at 5th gear....how much fun is that ACTUALLY going to be....bragging rights are yours...but as far as mashing the gas at 70 and the car spinning out...how much fun is that...
I may and hope that I am wrong but how is that power and chassis going to play.......Well I hope...
Great work on your part
TCD the company...your passion shows excellent product....

and you can just say that that is your POWERPLANT becuz it will be putting out the power that's for sure.....
again....BEAUTIMOUS!!!!!!!!

The Alpina fuel cell (when full) adds 60 lbs over the rear diff. I am also thinking about using an additional 50-60 lbs strapped down in the trunk too. Time will tell.

My problem is not the amount of power the kit produces. My peak horsepower is likely somewhere near that of a US M5, but with WAY more torque.
I'm currently have trouble getting the power to the ground for a few reasons. First, my tires are summer tires and are a poor compound for cold weather like we've had here in New England since I got the car running properly. Second, those poor tires have very little tread left, so that doesn't help anything. Third, I'm using a 3.46ls differential and the shorter gears along with my lightened flywheel make it easier to light things up.
I have a set of staggered Hartge BBS wheels in the basement with good rubber that're just waiting for spring to be mounted on the car and have their traction tested. I should be able to hook up nicely with new rubber of any kind.
