I'm a little confused about the intercooler. Doesn't the Alpina intake manifold contain a water/air intercooler? The IC under the car looks like an A/A unit. Great looking car, though! I'd love to see some better pics of the turbo header, if you've got any.

Looks like the turbo has water cooling, interesting. I would cover the intake pipe from the intercooler to the TB with some type of heat shielding. I bet that exhaust pipe from the turbo gets really hot and the intake pipe is very close to it.

Is he running a TEC3 system in this car? If so, I would love to have a copy of the BIN file for reference for my application.

How about mounting the coils here -

This will reduce the length of the wires, keep the coils cool and clean up the engine compartment some.

Is that is a WB O2 sensor? If so it will fail in short order due to location. WB O2 sensors need to be a minimum of 18" from the turbo exhaust. They can not take over a EGT of 1300 F and or over 900 F at the housing measured at the bung. Innovate Motorsports has a heat sink that can be used to fix this condition, its $85 though. Check this web site for some excellent tips on the install and running of WB O2 sensors -

Todd, did you do the work on this car? Great work! Lots of challenges overcome I am sure.

Looks great.....question...does the turbo being so close to the wires cause any type of problem?

Many thanks to Todd for posting the pictures/thread. One of these days I'll figure it out for myself and post more.

The intake manifold that Alpina made is just that...no internal W/A intercooler. The unit A/A unit up front is a recent upgrade...a 3.5 in core, 6x17 (cut down from a length of 34.) It should flow around 1100 cfm.

Good idea on the heat shielding, I'll have to add that to the list. The system is a Tec-II, which I believe has compatability with later models. I'd love to be able to relocate the control unit to your location, but with the Tec-II, it a real estate issue...the coil packs sit on top of the control unit and are not separable. The tune is still a bit rough though, but should be a good starting point if you don't have anything else. I'll email the latest files.

The O2 sensor (narrow) is basically serving as a plug. Not sure how hot it gets at that location, but better safe than sorry...next time, I'll use the other bung downstream of the downpipe. The Turbo is a Garrett GT-35/40, and its internals are water-cooled.

Had I been smart about it, I would have take picures of the exhaust manifold before it was installed/coated. Its a work of art. Built in three pieces, v-band clamps holding it together. Yes, getting to the spark plugs is no easy task...alot of disassembly.

Great installation. Very tight and precise!

Is the hood louvered or is that a reflection of lights, etc. from the ceiling??? If it is just a reflection, it is perfectly centered!!!!!!!

Yes, the hood is louvered...it was that way when I bought the car almost 14 yrs ago.

Jim - do you think I can get some more pics of the intercooling setup? I'm trying to do something custom and what you have was right up my alley.

Is that a verticle flow IC also?

TIA
